SPSS Update on 4/29/2008

SPSS incremental patches 16.01 and 16.02 will install during login Tuesday on machines that have SPSS16 installed and not patched. The important bug fixes for 16.02 are listed below.

Description:
This update corrects over 100 most commonly requested customer issues, including improvements to the performance and usability of SPSS 16.0 on all supported desktop and server platforms. This patch resolves the following issues:
1. An issue whereby the Options dialog did not load properly was fixed.
2. A problem in which SPSS Server on UNIX platforms generated empty SPV files for Custom Tables was repaired.
3. An issue in which SPSS Server on AIX crashed when running specific Custom Tables syntax was fixed.
4. A bug in which copying and pasting a chart does not paste an Enhanced Metafile within Excel was repaired.
5. An issue whereby copying and pasting data to Excel resulted in the wrong separator value was repaired.
6. A problem that resulted in lost data when copying and pasting data from a table in SPSS to Excel back to SPSS was fixed.
7. A problem in which there was an inability to select cells in the Variable View past the current view was resolved.
8. A bug in Ctables whereby multiple response sets row dimension labels were not aligned properly was fixed.
9. A bug in Page Attributes in which date and time were not printed in the format designated by the locale was fixed.
10. A problem in the Variable View in which there was an inability to paste string widths to other string variable was fixed.
11. A problem in the pivot table editor in which selecting data & label cells for multiple columns, then trying to delete the selection lead to a "Processing..." message was fixed.
12. In the German version of SPSS 16 in the Syntax Editor a duplication of the Alt+A shortcut was fixed.
13. Interactive Graphs syntax is no longer case sensitive.
14. An issue in Find & Replace, in which "Replace All" was selected and the second instance of the target word was not replaced was resolved.
15. A problem whereby the -runsyntax command line option no longer worked was fixed.
16. An issue in the File>SaveAs dialog, in which the ability to smart-quote file specifications was not properly working, was fixed.
17. A problem in the Viewer in which multi-line titles did not persist after saving output was resolved.
18. In the Complex Sample Wizard an issue in which text sis not display properly was resolved.
19. A problem in the Chart Editor whereby changing the color of one bar caused a "divide by zero" error was fixed.
20. A problem whereby existing data files were somehow deleted after modifications were made to the file was fixed.
21. A problem in which licensing via internet returned an Authorization Error was repaired.
22. A bug in which running tables with many footnotes lead to an assertion was fixed.
23. In pivot tables an issue whereby double byte characters were distorted when the item was moved to layer was resolved.
24. A problem in which the Value Label dialog sets incorrect button focus was fixed.
25. An Image Rendering Error for Correspondence Analysis plots was fixed.
26. A problem with the Chinese version of SPSS 16 in which a "Dataset not found" error occurred when starting SPSS was repaired.
27. A bug in which removed variables are saved on Vista was repaired.
28. A problem in the Frequency dialog with certain variables were viewed as undefined in the dialog (but can be run in syntax) was repaired.
29. An issue in the Merge Files->Add variables dialog which produced errors 5241 and 5145 was resolved.
30. An issue in the Data Editor Variable View whereby the Value Labels dialog did not reset after adding a label was fixed.
31. A problem with the German version of SPSS being unable to create a date variable from a string variable with the Date and Time Wizard was fixed.
32. A problem whereby Time Series Create Models dialog did not correctly paste syntax for ARIMA was fixed.
33. A problem in Custom Tables in which sort keys were not pasted was fixed.
34. A problem in which page setup ignored default printing preferences was fixed.
35. A bug in which a Tablelook was not applied to new tables if you close output viewer or open a new one was resolved.
36. A problem whereby saving data files in directories with Polish or Japanese did not always occur was repaired.
37. An issue in which blanks which are imported from Excel were displayed in SPSS as three exclamation points was resolved.
38. An issue in which changing decimals in a numeric cell format in pivot table had an undesirable side effect was resolved.
39. An issue whereby menus items were missing and dialogs did not load was resolved.
40. A problem with which the Text Wizard used wrong decimal separator resulting in error 2278 was repaired.
41. A problem in the Time Series Expert Modeler whereby Specified Events would not run was fixed.
42. A performance problem using Variable Sets on larger datasets was fixed.
43. A problem in which after exporting to Excel, a message "Excel found unreadable content" when opening the exported file in Excel was fixed.
44. Print Preview performance was improved.
45. An issue in which the data file was not saved upon exit on a slower network was resolved.
46. An issue with the German version of SPSS in which the shortcut for opening the file menu changed from Alt-D to Alt-T was resolved.
47. An issue in which double-byte characters in an Excel 2007 file could not be imported into SPSS was fixed.
48. A problem with dialogs in factor analysis incorrectly handling double byte variables was repaired.
49. In the Data Editor Data View a problem copying then pasting multiple rows of data was fixed.

51. An issue whereby the Independent and One-Sample T-Test use wrong delimiter for Confidence Intervals was resolved.
52. A problem in which DATA LIST FIXED lead to misalignment of data was repaired.
53. A problem in LAG function whereby strings crashed SPSS in Unicode mode was fixed.
54. A problem when attempting to open an Excel 2007 file returned "Error starting the Java Virtual Machine" was repaired.
55. In the Syntax Editor, a problem in which "Replace All" followed by "Undo" did not restore to the initial state was fixed.
56. An issue in which there was an inability to paste multiple Value Labels and Variable in the Variable View was resolved.
57. A bug whereby page titles were not printed and page breaks were not honored was resolved.
58. A problem of inconsistent decimal place formatting in tables was fixed.
59. A problem where by using long "If" parameter in the Select Cases dialog gave an expression incomplete error was fixed.
60. On Windows Vista 32-bit a problem in which applying the Hotfix 16.0.1.3 lead to SPSS not starting was fixed.
61. A problem in which copying and pasting of a small table to Excel and cell contents were lost was repaired.
62. An issue whereby Complex Samples did not open a dialog for Crosstabs, Frequencies, or Descriptives was resolved.
63. An issue whereby there was a resource leak closing data files was resolved.
64. An issue in which the Python scripting API failed to return proper objects was resolved.(This issue made working with output documents highly unreliable)
65. An issue whereby values entered for comma formatted variables in dot separator locales displayed incorrectly was resolved.
66. A problem in which values entered for dot formatted variable in comma separator locale displayed incorrectly was fixed.
67. A Data Editor issue where the dot separator lost the first value after the decimal place on numeric variables was fixed.
68. An issue in which entering data in dot separator locales lead to the variable defaulting to a string variable was fixed.
69. The performance of WinWrap/Sax Basic Scripting was improved.
70. A bug in Utilities->Variables in which Go To sent the selection to the wrong variable in Data View if file sorted other than by File was fixed.
71. A problem in which shortcut keys (for example CTRL-C and DELETE) within an output file do not work any longer after working some time was fixed.
72. A problem in Select Cases in which a selection based on time or case range generated incorrect syntax when using default starting dates was fixed.
73. A problem in which the Merge File Add Variables dialog omitted the "Rename" syntax was fixed.
74. A problem in which starting SPSS16 lead to Error # 1216 was repaired.
75. An issue in which the License Authentication Wizard did not progress was fixed.
76. An issue in which non-ASCII characters in default paths for temporary and journal files lead SPSS to crash was addressed.
77. A problem in Cox Regression whereby the generated chart labels were incorrect was fixed.
78. A problem which Custom Tables or the Output Management System generated empty output (.SPV) files under certain condition was fixed.
79. An issue which resulted in long delays when producing simple Viewer output was addressed.
80. A problem in which Unicode did not work on all Unix 64 servers was fixed.
81. A problem with the Output Management System, in which suppressing viewer output failed, was fixed.

83. A problem in which copying and pasting values from Excel into multiple cells of SPSS, and only first cell appeared, was fixed.
84. An issue of poor table performance for larger tables was addressed, allowing tables to draw copy and print faster.
85. A problem in the Output Viewer in which shift-click to select range of objects in contents or outline pane did not work was repaired.
86. A scripting bug whereby the "Undo Scientific Notation.wwd" stopped on ".NumericFormatAt" was fixed.
87. A problem in which copying and pasting from Excel into SPSS 16.0 pasted all data into one cell was fixed.
88. A problem in which Cox Regression exported invalid PMML was fixed.
89. A problem in which DISCRIMINANT crashed when output language was set to Simplified Chinese was repaired.
90. A problem in which SPSS Server could not open an Excel (.xls) file on AIX was repaired.
91. An issue whereby the chart template was not always applied if you have a procedure that generated lots of charts was fixed
92. A problem in which exporting or copying of large tables from SPSS to Excel did not complete was fixed.
93. A bug in which the Insert key had no effect for editing text in syntax or text editors was fixed.
94. An issue whereby CPU usage spiked to 100% when copying large output tables to paste into Excel was fixed.
95. A problem in the Custom Tables user interface in which Multiple Response sets in dialog could not be used if elementary variables have no value labels was fixed.
96. A resource leak which caused SPSS to grind to a halt was resolved.
97. An issue whereby double-clicking on file in Explorer caused SPSS to start a new instance of SPSS when one was already running was fixed.
98. An issue in Go to Variable whereby the drop down list was not in alphabetical order was fixed.
99. An issue whereby the Text Import Wizard viewer did not display correctly when clicking FINISH was addressed.
100. A problem in the Page Attributes in which "Make Default" was broken was fixed.
101. When importing data from Excel, a problem in which cells that contained equations returned a string value that could not be properly read into SPSS was fixed.
