SUAR-IT staff will be installing monthly security updates for all SUAR-IT-managed servers Wednesday, February 4th through Thursday February 5th. Please refer to the list below for details on affected services and their outage periods. During these maintenance periods there may be intermittent outages of all servers and their hosted services. Feel free to contact a SUAR-IT staff member should you have any questions or concerns.

Maintenance Periods:

ITS has planned the following outages due to scheduled server maintenance occurring February 7-8. Impacts to various campus services are as follows:

Saturday, February 7th
On Saturday, February 7th, Banner INB, Banner Self Service, and ODS will be unavailable from 2:00pm until approximately 7:00pm.

Sunday, February 8th
On Sunday, February 8th, ITS will be performing maintenance on several servers. From 9:00am until approximately 2:00pm, the following services will be unavailable while the work is being done:

A Microsoft Critical Security Patch will install via the NAL beginning tomorrow morning during login for campus. The install time is approximately two minutes. MS09-001 (KB958687) eliminates a critical remote code execution vulnerability. ITS recommends that users close all programs and files and install the update before the forced install on January 15th. The install icon (XP SP3 Security Patch 01 09) displays on NAL in the My-Campus > Updates-Installs > Windows Security Updates Folder. You may need to refresh the NAL (Novell-delivered Applications) window to display the install icon.

49er Express will be unavailable on Friday, Jan. 2nd, 2009, from 8:00am until approximately 5:00pm on Saturday, Jan 3rd, in order for ITS to upgrade to the latest version of the product.

Banner Self Service, Outlook Web Access Email, and Blackboard Vista will be available via the direct access methods which will be published on the webpage during the outage.

Microsoft has released a critical update for the follow versions of IE:

Internet Explorer 5.01 (Windows 2000)
Internet Explorer 6 (Windows 2000)
Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (Windows XP and Windows Server 2003)
Internet Explorer 7 (Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and
Windows Server 2008)

SUAR IT Staff will be updating our Windows Servers tonight between 9PM and 11PM. We do not believe that this update will require a reboot, but if it does, there may be a brief 5 minute outage for the servers.
